E Onipaʻa I Ka ʻImi Naʻauao

A free concert to honor the music of Queen Liliu‘okalani and her siblings, known as Na Lani ‘Eha, or the Heavenly Four.

Featuring Walea and special guest artists Ku’uipo Kumukahi, Alan Akaka and Bobby Ingano, ‘Alewa and Isaac Woodward. Timeless mele like “Aloha ʻOe” and “Ke Aloha O Ka Haku” to be played on kingdom-era instruments from the Hawaiian Music Archives collections. Hand-written sheet music and other documents from Her Majesty’s personal manuscript collection at the Hawai’i State Archives will also be on display.

Season One of the Hawaiian Music Archives Oral History Series will be broadcast in 2026

Thanks to a grant secured by U.S. Senator Brian Schatz, ʻŌlelo Community Media and the Hawaiian Music Archives are partnering to digitally preserve and share important pieces of Hawaiʻi’s musical heritage. The 12-episode series features top musicians, luthiers, and music scholars and educators. Keep an eye on the ʻŌlelo website [https://olelo.org] for official launch dates and sneak peeks.

Hawaiian Music Archives and ‘Ukulele Museum Initiative – Builder’s Spotlight

For anyone who missed the March 15, 2025 livestream of the inaugural Builder’s Spotlight on the custom work of Manny Halican of Pahu Kani ‘Ukulele of Waiʻanae. Hosted by Uncle Kimo Hussey, six custom Pahu Kani ‘ukulele are showcased both in terms of construction and sound, with a question and answer period after each instrument.
